NPL R14 Preview – Oakleigh Cannons FC v Melbourne Knights FC

We’re officially into the second half of the season Knights fans, with all upcoming games being the second time we face our prospective opponents.

Friday night NPL action returns in round 14 as the Knights hit the road again and face off against former round 1 opponents Oakleigh Cannons FC. With a 3-2 win over Oakleigh in the opening round of 2018, Knights will be looking for a solid performance after 13 games, in a real test to see which direction the remainder of their season will go.

The Cannons, not too far away from the Knights in the current NPL standings, sit in 7th position on 18 points, with a positive goal difference of 2. Their season for the most part has been rather even, winning 6 and losing 7 matches out of the 13 played so far. The side will be coming into round 14 on a high, after beating Northcote City FC 5-2 at home in the previous round.

After a lethargic display at the home of Dandenong Thunder SC last round, the Knights went home empty handed after a 2-0 loss. The match however did have some positive spark, seeing the return of key forward Kym Harris who’s absence has been sorely felt in Knights forward line. Despite coming on in the second half, Harris was able to get 25 minutes under his belt as he continues to work on getting back to full match fitness.

With the mid season transfer window now officially opened (28th May – 12th June), the movement of players between clubs along with new players coming into the league will surely shake things up a little. With the Knights already announcing the singing of attacking midfielder Andelo Svalina, the side is already looking to bolster its squad to make a strong push for the finals football in the second half of the season.
