NPL Round 5 Preview – Bentleigh Greens SC v Melbourne Knights FC

It will be green versus white this Friday night as the Melbourne Knights travel to the home of Bentleigh Greens for Round Five of the Victorian NPL. With only two points out of a possible 9 on the road, the Melbourne Knights will be looking for nothing less than a solid win as they conclude their early away match circuit before returning home for their FFA Cup clash against Altona Magic on Good Friday Eve.

The match, scheduled for Friday the 23rd of March, will see second place Bentleigh Greens SC host the Melbourne Knights at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, with kick off at 8:15pm.

In the four rounds already played, Bentleigh have yet to drop a match and are currently sitting on 12 points in 2nd position on the ladder only due to goal difference. Continuing their 2017 season success, Bentleigh boast an impressive record in their four games, totalling nine goals, Melbourne Knights will be looking to shut down former player Jason Hicks, who is currently leading the charge with three of his own. Bentleigh also have two clean sheets and have only conceded two goals in their four matches.

The Knights, who sit in 8th position on the NPL Vic ladder with 5 points, have netted eight goals in four matches, conceding nine goals in the past four games. For the Knights, the ones to watch have been Kym Harris, sitting on two goals, and Brody Taylor, also on two goals due to his brace against Hume City. Importantly for Knights, Shaun Timmins returns to squad after serving out his two-match suspension received in round two. Anthony Duzel will still have one more match to serve after Friday night’s game.

Asanovic’s men tear into Round 5 with nothing but sheer determination to storm back into the top half of the table, as they look to gain some momentum for their first 2018 FFA Cup clash next Thursday at home against Altona Magic, and then the Original Melbourne Derby against South Melbourne at home in Round 6 the following week. Now well into the first half of the NPL season, the squad is well and truly finding its stride, and enters this week’s match-up with boots on the ground, with everything to play for. Knights have previously shown moments of brilliance and will look to capitalise on those efforts as the club moves forward in what is a vital turn-around season.

We urge all Knights’ fans to get down to Kingston Heath Soccer Complex this Friday night, for what promises to be a heated match between the two clubs.
