The Melbourne Knights would like to welcome another new addition in Michael Piccolo to the 2022 squad.
Fresh off the back of a recent move to Melbourne from the ACT Piccolo arrives at the Knights from NPL Capital Football side, Belconnen United, whom he frequently featured for in season 2021. Playing in the same league as fellow Capital Croatian clubs – O’Connor Knights and Canberra Croatia – Piccolo played eight games out of a possible 17 for Belconnen United and as a natural centre-mid player, Piccolo has been known to even find the back of the net for his side.
The 21-year-old midfielder mentioned that he joined the club “because of its history” and “the philosophy that Steve Bebic had described fits my play style with a lot of young players”.
Before his move to Belconnen United, Piccolo had various stints at clubs near and across the Australian Capital Territory, including the Monaro Panthers from 2016, 2017 and 2018, who although geographically sit in New South Wales – compete in the NPL CF, as well as fellow Croatian side – Canberra Croatia FC – in 2017. In 2016 for the Monaro Panthers U20’s, Piccolo impressively notched up 17 goals from 18 matches – including a hat-trick midway through the season.
On his arrival to Somers Street, Piccolo stated that “the intensity and physicality is much higher than I anticipated”. As far as ambitions go, Piccolo says he would love to win the league and make a great cup run to “leave the fans with some great memories”.
Everyone at the Melbourne Knights welcomes Michael to Knights Stadium and is excited to see him in action this season!
