Melbourne Knights face Avondale FC as the ‘away’ side as 4th spot battles top spot on Friday night at Knights Stadium.
The Knights are in top form with three consecutive wins in league and cup competition, building momentum for a tough set of upcoming fixtures starting with league leaders Avondale FC.
Last Friday’s 4-0 win over Port Melbourne would have been encouraging for Andrew Marth as his side put in a dominate ninety minutes. There were plenty of positives all over the park for the Knights, earning their first clean sheet of the season along with a first home win. In addition goals continue to flow for Elvis Kamsoba, Tom Cahill and Jason Hicks, whist duo Cvitkovic and Batur made the return to the senior action following lengthy injury delays.
This week’s opponents will arguably provide the toughest test, with Avondale FC currently undefeated at the summit of the table. Remarkably last week’s 2-1 win over North Geelong was the first time Avondale scored more than 1 goal in a league game, a testament to their water-tight defence led by goalkeeper Chris Oldfield.
Despite their lack of goals, Avondale FC possesses a formidable attack consisting of Sheppard, Carley, Germano and former gold medallist Kamal Ibrahim. Complementing the attack is the ever reliable Massimo Murdocca marshalling the midfield.
Recent history between the sides have been in favour of Avondale FC claiming 3-1 & 5-0 wins last season, although the latter was during a time when the Knights had their attention fully focused on the FFA Cup.
A reminder that the match has been moved from Saturday to this Friday night, with free entry to all Knights Members.
