PREVIEW: Knights v Bulleen

Melbourne Knights welcome Bulleen Lions to Knights Stadium on Friday night in yet another pivotal fixture and relegation 6 pointer.

Bulleen, currently in 9th position, are 4 points clear of the 12th placed Knights and anything other than maximum points will entrench them further in a battle to avoid the drop.

It was a much improved performance from Eric Vassiliadis’s men on Monday night, with impressive debuts from new signings Mehdi Martin, Nick Apostolopoulos & Kamal Ibrahim. Tom Cahill’s equaliser saw his season tally increase to 7 and overtakes Jason Hicks as leading scorer.

With only a 4 day break between games, Vassiliadis may opt to make changes to his line up to ease the work load. Marijan Cvitkovic and Kamal Ibrahim came off the bench against Kingston and played well enough to justify a starting berth this week. While Anthony Dezic & Tim Purcell were unused substitutes and will be eager to see some playing time.

Bulleen Lions are currently on a 3 match unbeaten run, and come into this fixture in full confidence after a good display in their 3-1 win against North Geelong.

Travelling doesn’t seem to be an issue for the Lions, who have picked up 3 wins from 6 games on the road. That statistic wouldn’t sit well with the Knights, whose struggles at home have been well documented.

The most recent fixture been the clubs saw the Melbourne Knights run out 3-2 victors. A late comeback from the Lions with 2 late goals almost undid a dominant display from the Knights, with late goals being a constant thorn in the season to date.
