Melbourne Knights has secured its second major signing in the space of 24 hours, with former player Shayan Alinejad returning to Somers St, having signed from Bulleen Lions on Friday afternoon.
Alinejad, who’s already made 70 apperances for the Red, White & Blue, will be available for selection in tomorrow’s PS4 NPL fixture with Northcote City.
The pacy winger will however not be elegible for the Club’s FFA Cup and Dockerty Cup push, but Alinejad says he’s excited about helping the squad challenge in the league.
“Obviously with the guys pushing for finals, I’ll do everything I can to help the team secure that, and being cup-tied I’ll just support the boys in the FFA Cup and hopefully we can go as far as we can in that competition,” Alinejad said.
Speaking to Knights Media, the midfielder said his return to Knights Stadium was prompted by a desire to return to his best football.
“I’m excited and looking forward to getting back to my best form, especially with all the guys that are there and obviously Stabba (Andrew Marth) and Frank (Juric), so it should be a good finish to the season for me.
“I have great respect for Bulleen and all the boys there. They’re doing a great job but I just thought now would be the best time for me to come back and work again with all the guys and the coaching staff at Knights where I was probably playing my best football and see if I can capture that form again.”
Alinejad joins Julius Davies as the second player to have signed with the Club in the mid-season transfer window, and the third new addition to the squad since the start of the season, with youngster Damien Miskulin signing back in May.
