Melbourne Knights FC Official Website Melbourne Knights Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Surey as Head Coach ahead of the 2024 NPL Victoria season.
After an impressive nine-season playing career at the Knights, Surey has gone to serve as the club’s U20 coach, as well as holding the title of caretaker coach on two occasions.
Having arrived to the club via England for the 2010 Victorian Premier League season, Surey cemented himself as a constant feature for nearly a decade, making over 120 league appearances. It was during this time he found himself in his first stint as caretaker coach, helping the club avoid relegation in 2017.
At the end of the 2018 season Surey called time on his playing career, and was appointed coach for the club’s U20 side for the following season.
It wasn’t long until he found his way back at the helm of the first team, once again as caretaker coach in 2022, before taking on the role of assistant coach for the 2023 season.
On being appointed Head Coach for 2024 Surey about the task that lies ahead of him.
“I understand the responsibility and the expectations and look forward to the challenge of working with the players and the club to make the community proud. It feels like we’re in a good place to start with but at the same time there’s a lot of work to do so it’s important use the highs and the lows of last year and start building to improve again.”
The club enjoyed one of its more successful seasons in recent times, finishing fourth in NPL Victoria, and making the semi finals of all three competitions, including the Australia Cup in front of over 5,000 Knights fans.
In terms of what we can expect to see from a Ben Surey Melbourne Knights, the goal is quite clear. “We want to win in every game we play and in every competition we compete in – we’ll be working as hard as we possibly can to achieve that.”
The Knights pre season is scheduled to commence in mid-November, with details of pre season fixtures to made public in the coming weeks.
