Melbourne Knights look to continue their strong run of form when they host Hume City in NPL Victoria Round 11 action at Knights Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Ben Cahn’s side have won six of their last seven in the league and find themselves in fourth position on twenty points, seven clear of seventh placed Hume as they chase the return to finals football that has eluded the club for the past seven seasons.
Knights come into Sunday’s match off the back of an impressive 3-2 victory over a strong Green Gully side thanks to goals from Ciaran Bramwell and Mohammed Sumaoro at Somers Street on Monday night.
Bramwell’s brace in Monday’s win over Gully takes his tally to six goals in all competitions for the 2023 season, leaving him level with Albano as the club’s top scorer so far this campaign.
Knights hadn’t managed to win three league matches on the trot in nearly four years prior to this season but have now achieved the feat twice in the space of seven games as Ben Cahn’s new look side begin to really hit their stride.
Last time Knights won four in a row was part of the club’s longest ever NPL Victoria winning streak which stretched six matches from the final game of the 2014 season through to Round Five of the 2015 season.
Hume, who sit a point outside the top six after ten rounds of action come into Sunday’s clash after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bentleigh Greens in their most recent outing.
Sunday’s match will be the nineteenth meeting between the two sides at NPL Victoria level with Knights having won six, Hume winning eight and there having been four draws from previous clashes between the pair.
Last time the sides met Hume ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Josh Bingham and Mitch Cooper at Hume City Stadium in July last year.
Sunday’s match which also provides Knights with the opportunity to make up ground on early frontrunners with 1st placed Avondale hosting 3rd placed Oakleigh kicks off at 4pm at Knights Stadium and will be live streamed on NPL.TV.
