A last-minute goal by the Knights saw the side avoid going home empty-handed after a high-level match.
The Knights travelled to Avenger Park to take on Avondale FC in Round 16 NPL action. The fierce rivalry between the two sides saw a quick and pacey first half, with both sides peppering the goal, trying to find the back of the net, however, neither side was unable to find the back of the net.
The Knights luck soured when defender, Tom Woerndl was given his marching orders in the 32nd minute after he pulled on Yitay Towns’ shirt while being the last man, however officially sent off for receiving two yellow cards. Reduced to ten men, the Knights would need a lift for the second half to overcome the deficit. Ending the half at 0-0, the Knights had keeper Chris Oldfield to thank, making some epic saves throughout the first half to keep the Avengers at bay.
Much to the disappointment of Knights fans in attendance, the Avengers were able to find the back of the next immediately after the second half whistle after a Cian Cuba goal in the 46th minute. Despite the goal, the Knights were able to overcome the deficit and keep pressure on their opponents.
The Knights would be rewarded for their efforts in extra time thanks to a header from striker, Ciaran Bramwell, netting his seventh goal of the season.
We’ll look to take home more points next week, as we face off against the St Albans Saints next Sunday at 3pm. Get down and support the boys in the derby as they play their third game in a row away from home. Looking forward to seeing you there.
