Knights secure long awaited win on the road

The Knights have won their first match in six rounds, defeating the Eastern Lions two goals to nil.

Starting XI: Thomas Manos (GK), Jack Marth, Taylor Schrijvers, Ayden Brice (C), Dylan Murnane, Thiery Iradukunda, Luka Kolic, Anthony Duzel, Gian Albano, George Ott, Jack Morton

Substitutes: Harry Cakarun (GK), Joseph Colina, Justin Micallef, Steve Sokol, Mohamad Sumaoro, Trevor Ssemakula

After braving the bitter conditions on Saturday, Knights fans in attendance were rewarded early on for their travelling efforts. The Knights got off to the best start possible as Gian Albano netted the first goal of the match in the 7th minute, marking this as his 10th goal of the NPL season. Proving to be pivotal to the Knights attack, Albano now sits fifth on the goal scoring charts for the 2022 NPL Victoria season.

After Albano’s opener, the Knights quickly steadied and held a comfortable, yet slim lead at the half time break. With 45 minutes to go, the Knights were determined to finish the job.

In a similar fashion to the first half, seven minutes into the second half saw the Knights double their lead through regular starter Luka Kolic, giving the Knights some extra comfort as they looked destined for the three points. The long-awaited drought of wins was over, as the Knights seized victory for the first time in six weeks.

The three points keeps the Knights within a mathematical chance of making finals. With 15 points left for grabs this season – including a postponed match to catch up on – the Knights sit only 10 points from the top six.

Next round the Knights are scheduled to play eighth-placed Dandenong Thunder, where a win in this fixture could see the boys leapfrog their opponents in the standings.
