2021 NPL Round 3 – Saints v Knights

The Melbourne Knights will defend their 2 from start start to the season against the St. Albans Saints in round three of the NPL Victoria tomorrow at Churchill Reserve on Sunday, March 14.

The Knights be will looking to extend their run of wins from two to three, after starting the season flawlessly.

Last week, the Knights completed a 2-1 win in a tense affair at Somers Street. New signing Alun Webb secured a brace, and the Knights looked destined for their second consecutive clean sheet. That was until a late set-piece goal from the Dandenong Thunder that spoilt the party, seeing the match finish 2-1.

In the Saints latest match-up, they defeated Dandenong City 2-1 away from home, picking up their first points of the season. Dandenong City found themselves ahead early after converting a penalty in the 17th minute. Goals from Marko Bagaric and Adam Hodor flicked the switch and completed a come-from-behind victory for the Saints.

The last time these two sides faced was in the interrupted 2020 NPL Victoria season. The St. Albans Saints managed to pip the Knights 2-0 in the encounter, after second-half goals from Oliver Bassett and Mate Barisic.

Speaking on the Knight Train, Knights forward Alun Webb had this to say about the match:

“The lads are ready to go out and when you’re playing like this, you just want to play tomorrow. We’re just excited to get back out onto the pitch and hopefully the fans come an get behind us”

The boys will be aiming to make it three from three and stay perched at the top of the league, show your support and watch the Knights in action against the Saints at Churchill Reserve on Sunday afternoon!
