Carrigan joins the Knights back line

The Melbourne Knights Football Club are excited to announce the signing of defender, Ben Carrigan ahead of the 2024 NPL Victoria Season.

The 25-year-old defender joins the Knights in 2024 from the recently relegated Bentleigh Greens SC, where he had been since 2020, making 34 appearances for the side. Notably, Carrigan was part of the squad that led Bentleigh to lifting the 2022 Dockerty Cup.

Donning the number 2 jersey this season, Carrigan described the switch to the Knights as a “no brainer” given the clubs rich history, while also stating that “Ben (Surey) suits my game style a lot and I’m really enjoying my football.”

Before his time at Bentleigh, Carrigan progressed through the Melbourne Victory youth system, eventually making his professional debut for the senior men’s side against Korean outfit Daegu FC in the 2019 AFC Champions League. His time at the Victory would be cut short though, only making six appearances for the side in the A-League before joining Bentleigh.

Despite his young age, Carrigan has a wealth of experience in big matches, which will be relied upon as the Knights look to again progress far into the 2024 NPL Finals and 2024 Australia Cup.

After a lengthly pre-season, Carrigan had this to say on the squad and his fitness coming into round one “So far so good, as a whole we’ve performed quite well and are making progress every week. Same goes from a personal perspective, it’s a new system so I’m still adjusting and getting familiar. But as time goes on I’m feeling more comfortable.”

Carrigan is our second confirmed new signing of the upcoming 2024 season, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the club.
