Iradukunda swaps green for red

The Melbourne Knights are excited to announce yet another signing ahead of the 2022 season, Thiel ‘Thiery’ Iradukunda.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder lands at Somers Street with some top-level experience under his belt, arriving from fellow NPL Victoria side – the Bentleigh Greens.

Iradukunda began his senior career with the Melbourne Victory NPL Victoria side in 2018, playing a total of 31 matches. His efforts for Melbourne Victory’s NPL side earned Iradukunda a move to the newest A-League club ahead of the 2019/20 season – Western United.

Thiery

Iradukunda made his professional debut for Western United in Round 13 of the 2019/20 A-League season, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 loss to Melbourne City.

His A-League career was cut short when he was released at the end of the 2019/20 season after only making four appearances for the Verdeneri.

Iradukunda soon returned to the NPL Victoria – joining the Bentleigh Greens ahead of the 2021 season. He made four appearances for Bentleigh during the 2021 which was prematurely interrupted due to COVID-19. Within those four appearances, Thiery played three times for the senior team – scoring once, and made one appearance for the Under-21’s.

Upon making the switch to the Knights, Thiery expressed his desire to “join a club that had a professional player support structure” and hoped that this would allow him to “win as many games as possible next season.”

Everyone at the Melbourne Knights welcomes Thiery to the club and are eager to see him on the pitch in 2022!
