With a new coach and several new additions to the playing squad, our Boys Under 14 team started the 2013 season with a draw in their opening game against Point Cook. The team then went on an amazing run, winning their next 11 games which helped them develop a handy lead over the rest of the competition by round 12.
A couple of shaky results followed where they might have been able to wrap up the title, but it wasn’t until the round 16 game away to North Geelong Warriors where a tough draw was enough to secure first place with 2 rounds to go. With the title wrapped up, the team then finished the season with 2 big wins to finish the season with 14 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses and a goal difference of +62.
Last Sunday, the Boys 14A playoffs commenced and our boys were drawn against a strong Northcote City team in a semi final. Under tough finals conditions, the game finished at 1-1 at the end of normal time, and with neither team able to break the deadlock in extra time, the game was decided by a penalty shoot-out. Our boys showed their mental strength and scored all 5 of their penalties while Northcote missed one of theirs which led to wild celebrations both on and off the field.
So a massive congratulations to – Nikola, Steve, Conor, Adrian, Dion, Jakob, Marc, David, Amein, Isaac, Hugh, Daniel, Andrew, Antun, Lot, James, coach Danny, team manager Caroline and of course the proud supportive parents for a fantastic season which concludes with a Grand Final game against Doveton SC being played today at Dorset Recreation Reserve in Croydon.
Good luck, boys!
