Knights Senior players lead Junior teams

Junior development has always been a high priority at the Knights and keeping our Miniroo’s and juniors engaged with club activities at training and game days has always factored high.

The Melbourne Knights are happy to announce that over the last two months, senior mens player Trevor Zwetsloot, senior women’s players Michaela Jurcic, Filomena Delic and Tonya Kolceg have all been busy at Dobson Reserve, taking on coaching duties with our juniors in a bid to drive junior development and talent at the club.

Zwetsloot – coaching our under 8’s on a permanent basis – has been putting the under 8’s through their paces at training. Speaking on his involvement with the juniors, Zwetsloot said that what motivated him to work with the juniors was the clubs overall philosophy and commitment to juniors development, stating that “he wouldn’t be where he was today if it wasn’t for clubs like the Knights investing in talent pathways for young players.”

Mikaela Jurcic and Filomena Delic have also been coaching our U9s and U12s girls for the upcoming 2021 season. Aside from their commitments to their respective teams, Zwetsloot, Jurcic, Delic and Kolceg all have found time outside regular training sessions and game days to coach their juniors teams, with Jurcic stating that “my brothers and I spent our juniors with this club so its nice for me to give back to some young girls who were in the same position as me when I was a junior here.”

NPL Victoria action returns this Friday night with the Knights taking on league debutantes Eastern Lions.

The Knights senior womens take on round four of the Nike F.C. Cup this Thursday at home against club rivals Avondale F.C, with kick off at 7:30pm.
