MKFC Sunday Double Header Preview

It’s Double Header action tomorrow night when the Melbourne Knights return to NPL action this Sunday with momentum firmly in their corner following a commanding 3-0 win over Werribee City FC in the Australia Cup. Following the opener, the Knight’s Senior Womens side play their debut home game at Tompsett Stadium against Essendon Royals.

Focusing on NPL Vic action, the Knights fired 27 shots on target in a dominant display that underlined their potential with attacking firepower and intent. With their cup form igniting belief, the Knights will be eager to translate that success into league points as they host sister Croatian club Dandenong City in a highly anticipated clash at Tompsett Stadium.

Dandenong City come into the match on a high as well, progressing in the Cup with a 4-1 win over Goulburn Valley Suns, and putting five past Port Melbourne in their most recent NPL fixture. Their form will be a test for the Knights, but one the home side will be prepared for – especially after last year’s emphatic 5-2 away win at Frank Holohan Reserve.

This fixture is about more than just football. As two proud Croatian-backed clubs go head-to-head, the match will also be a celebration of rich heritage and a strong community. Hrvatski Vjesnik will be present on the day with  a stall showcasing the launch of their new monthly magazine and website. The first 50 magazine purchases will receive a limited-edition commemorative poster honouring the Knights’ iconic 1994/95 NSL Championship – cherished moment in Australian football history.

In Veto Sports State 3 Women’s actions, the Knights will be hosting Essendon Royals. The Knights were able to steal a point away from home last week in their season opener against Kensignton City SC, with Noor Eltawil netting the young sides first goal.

With the Knights eyeing a return to winning ways in the league and the atmosphere set to reflect both pride and passion, Sunday promises not just a crucial contest for NPL points, but a vibrant celebration of Croatian identity in Victorian football. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, soak in the festivities, and support the Knights as they look to continue their resurgence.
