Synthetic pitch added to Melbourne Knights Stadium

A synthetic pitch is nearing completion as the latest development to be added at Knights Stadium.

The new pitch will offer a number of new opportunities for players, and sits opposite the fully-equipped Knights Gym, directly behind the main stand.

A Summer-season program is currently being devised, with the potential for hiring to external groups also a possibility.

With many developments at Knights Stadium, the new pitch would not have been possible without sponsors who contributed to the fundraising of the project through our annual Sportsman Night.

Melbourne Knights President, Tony Karlusic, was quick to point out the positives for future Knights players, and juniors specifically.

“We talked about a little synthetic pitch for our kids, and their training,”  Karlusic said.

“A lot of the juniors are very excited about it.”

Karlusic also highlighted the continuous support around the ongoing developments at the club.

“Sponsorship over the last few years has been great. A lot of people have dug deep over the last two years, and that’s why we can do all of these upgrades.”

A football perspective was offered by current U18s coach, Tomi Gavran, who acted as project manager.

“The smaller the area the more touches that players will get on the ball,” Gavran explained.

“The idea is to get our junior players using it as much as possible to help with their development.”

“With the new synthetic pitch and the gym it’s exciting to ensure the future of our club, and to try and raise the bar, to attract better players.”

With new lights having been installed, the new pitch could act as a revenue builder for the club in the Summer months. Social tournaments could be played at the venue, and will be opened to the wider community as well as current Knights players and fans according to Gavran.

“Obviously we want to get some community involvement with people using the pitch in some 5-a-side competitions and social competitions.”

Stay tuned for information about an upcoming Summer 5-a-side competition for all age groups.
