2022 NPL Round 21 – Knights v Gully

The Knights are back in action tomorrow night, when they face Green Gully in round 21 of the NPL Victoria season.

Both sides sustained defeats last week, as the Knights took a 3-1 loss to  Hume City. A first half brace from Josh Bingham had the home side 2-0 at half time. While a late flurry of momentum saw both sides put one each on the scoresheet. George Ott scored the consolation for the Knights in the 88th minute.

Green Gully, a team on the hunt for a finals berth, shockingly lost 4-0 at home to the Bentleigh Greens. Two goals in either half for the visiting side ensured all three points would return home with them.

Last week’s deficit dropped the Knights closer to the bottom of the pack, showing how meaningful this week’s fixture and points are. The Knights are now 10 points from the top six and only seven points from the relegation playoff spot. Green Gully allowed Bentleigh to climb back into the finals race last week and will be hoping to shut them out once again.

When these sides last faced, late drama ensued as Green Gully won 2-1. After scoring early, Green Gully led for the entirety of the match. In the 87th minute, Gully had doubled their lead, but the Knights were not done with. With one minute remaining in the 90, Lionel Masudi put the Knights back into the match to start a chaotic additional time period. It wasn’t meant to be as the Knights couldn’t pull another one back.

The Knights haven’t been able to beat Green Gully since 2019, so they will be out to get that scalp and continue their hunt for a finals berth. Make sure to be there at Knights Stadium and support the lads!
