Hume City were off to the best of starts when an early penalty gifted them the lead in the fourth minute. Spearhead Josh Bingham made no mistake to give the home side an early advantage.
Things went from bad to worse for the Knights, when Hume made it two after only 16 minutes. Bingham continued to be a thorn in the side of the Knights defence, unlocking his brace in swift succession.
The Knights looked to get onto the scoreboard when George Ott stepped up for a penalty, but the spot kick wasn’t destined to go in, hitting the crossbar.
After a lack lustre 45 minutes, the Knights were off to the change rooms, 2-0 down after being caught off-guard in the first stages of the match.
The Knights showed more fight in the second half, yet this feat only made it more difficult to get on the scoreboard themselves. George Ott again stepped up for a free kick just shy of the 18 yard box, beating the wall, but Weier made the save to keep it out.
After constant pressure, Hume had a third. This time Mitch Cooper was the beneficiary, scoring his fourth goal of the season after coming off the bench.
The Knights effort was all in vain as George Ott hammered home a consolation goal. The Knights headed back to Somers Street with their pockets empty.
As far as the race for finals goes, the Knights remain ninth, this time 10 points from the sixth-placed Green Gully, who also happen to be our opponents next week.
