NPL Round 11 Preview – Melbourne Knights vs Hume City FC

On a night of national significance and solemn remembrance, Melbourne Knights travel to Nasiol Stadium to face Hume City in what is shaping up to be a season-defining Round 11 clash. Under the Anzac Day lights, the stakes rise beyond the table—this ones about reigniting belief.

The Knights come into this fixture riding a wave of fresh momentum after a commanding 5–1 Australia Cup victory over Beaumaris SC. Darcy Anastovski turned in a talismanic performance with a clinical hat-trick, Deion Nikolaidis etched his name onto the scoresheet, and young Croatian import Stjepan Bilic made an unforgettable debut coming on late, but doing enough to earn a spot on the score sheet.

The Cup win was reminiscent of the  Knights’ style of play  ‘bleeding for the shirt.’ It’s a mantra that has defined their on-field identity, and as the campaign marches on, it’s this exact spirit that will  continue to fuel the club’s fight.Despite recent results in the league, the Knights’ dressing room remains united, resolute, and driven. While outside voices may raise questions, inside the four walls of Somers Street, belief hasn’t wavered. The mission is clear: claw out of dangerous waters, one determined performance at a time.

Their opponents, Hume City, present a formidable challenge. Sitting mid-table with a record of four wins, four losses, and two draws, they’ve shown a blend of flair and steel. Back-to-back 3–1 wins—against Eltham Redbacks in the Cup and Port Melbourne Sharks in the league—have added fuel to their own momentum.

Recent history leans towards the hosts. In the last five encounters between the sides, Hume have claimed two wins, shared the spoils twice, and conceded all three points to the Knights just once.

With a third of the season already gone and the league ladder looking anything but predictable, this Anzac Day clash takes on added significance. For the Knights, it’s a moment to stand tall, to show who they are, and to remind the league what it means to wear the red, white, and blue.
